Illustrations and drawings for the Permanent Archaeological Exhibition at the library of Thiene Italy

Beautiful experience in which I put myself to the test: the creation of illustrations and drawings for the Permanent Archaeological Exhibition presso la biblioteca di Thiene (Vicenza).

I have to admit it wasn’t easy, the Archaeological lllustration it is a type of drawing that provides the ability to move in an interdisciplinary way between archeology, architecture and design. Thanks above all to the support of the archaeologists, in charge of setting up the exhibition, I was able to arrive at a synthesis recognizing and above all interpreting the various data, from the reconstruction of the settings to the study of clothing and objects, trying to get closer to a reconstruction as truthful as possible of the various ages. The material exhibited at Palazzo Cornaggia (seat of the Thiene library) concerns archaeological finds from a vast period of time that embraces the Prehistoric Age, the Bronze and Iron Age until reaching the Roman Age.

Another difficulty was creating different types of illustrations:

  • Anatomical drawing of the Antracotherium magnum, extinct mammal at the end of the Oligocene, about 30 million years ago, whose remains were found in a lignite deposit in the Marola district of Chiuppano and part of the donation of the Archaeological Group of Thiene;
  • The settings of the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age until Roman Age, with reconstruction of the house and clothing for all ages.
  • Panels with the Timeline for use by archaeological laboratories designed for young visitors, especially school-age children, with “Cartoon” style illustrations.
